Dynasty Power is a proprietary commodities trading firm that specializes in electricity, gas, and environmental markets. Dynasty is an active participant in all major electricity markets including CAISO, Ontario IESO, ISO-NE, PJM, MISO, SPP, AESO, WECC, and ERCOT.
Dynasty is seeking a Quantitative Energy Trading Analyst to join its ERCOT trading team in Houston. This position is open to US Citizens and US residents only.
This role involves creating and maintaining very granular supply and demand models, performing power flow simulations using DAYZER software, and building interactive tools to present results to traders. Responsibilities also include conducting market research, using quantitative methods to formulate and back-test trading strategies, tracking and assessing regulatory changes, and other ad-hoc analytical tasks.
This position will support Dynasty’s financial trading on ICE and other exchanges, including products such as balance of the day, next day, cash, and term ERCOT futures. Additionally, it will support its virtual trading efforts (INC/DEC/PTP) in ERCOT and SPP. This position does not support FTR/CRR trading.
This is a highly visible, commercial, front-office role that directly influences trading strategy and drives results.
Target experience level is 1-5 years in an energy trading environment. Highly motivated fresh college graduates with relevant coursework and internship experience will also be considered.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as physics, mathematics, computer science, engineering, or quantitative economics is required. Master’s degree or PhD is a plus.
- Highly motivated self-starter with a strong bias for action.
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills and commercial acumen.
- Strong fundamental understanding of electricity markets including DA and RT dynamics, LMP pricing, grid operations, physics of electricity, powerflow, and regulatory policy.
- Advanced expertise in Python and SQL.
- Functional understanding of data warehouse platforms such as Snowflake and AWS. Must be able to extract, clean, integrate, and analyze large and messy datasets from multiple sources.
- Functional understanding of data visualization tools such as Tableau, PowerBI, Shiny, Dash, etc.
- Experience performing powerflow simulations using DAYZER is desired but not required. Ideal candidate is an advanced DAYZER user.
- Strong knowledge of statistics, probability, and machine learning techniques (xgboost, neural networks, etc) is preferred.
- Knowledge of quantitative finance, risk modeling, futures, options, and Value-at-Risk concepts is desirable.
